Conclusion of Krevo Union
1988, oil on canvas, 300x260
I was raised in a village
in the southern part of Belarus, which is called Polesye. It is a remote
region with a great number of swamps, which has not been influenced much
by civilization. National traditions, folklore, crafts and applied arts
have been kept here better than in any other part of the republic. That
is why national tradition of the Belorussian people are very dear to me
as an artist. The themes of the heroic past of small country, mode of life
of the people, Belorussian landscape, reflection on values common to all
mankind - all this is present in my work.
I have created a number
of multifigure compositios on historic themes: "Conclusion of Krevo Union",
which is the property of the Vitebsk State University, "Angel over Vitebsk",
which is in the City Hall of Ninburg in Germany. While travelling a lot
across Belarus, Germany, Holland, Poland, Israel, I have created
a great number of landscapes. I am also fond of drawing portraits. I do
it in the streets.
